La Iglesia de Constitución, Monumento Nacional, ubicado a un costado de la plaza de armas de la ciudad de Constitución. Es uno de los edificios más característicos de la ciudad y comprende una de las imágenes mas fotografiadas de su fachada interna, lo destruido es mucho más dramático que los problemas que la Iglesia tiene de carácter estructural.
Esta serie de fotografías grafican una serie de registros tomados por el Padre Mario Aburto, inmediato al terremoto  de febrero del 2010.

The church of Constitución is a National Monument, it's located aside the main square of the town. It constitutes of the most characteristic buildings in town as well one of the most photographied facades, the destroyed areas are a lot more dramatic than the real structural problems.

This series of pictures , are a record taken by the Father Mario Aburto, inmediate the feb 27th , 2010 earthquake.

A primera vista la parte superior del frontón de la Iglesia se desplomó, una masa de decoraciones y detalles hechos sobre un frotón de mortero de cemento.Junto a una serie de reparaciones que la Iglesia había tenido con el tiempo.

La Iglesia sufrió principalmente en su fachada, producto de una serie de reparaciones pastiche que se fueron adhiriendo a ella, junto con esto, contrafuerte en su costado Este, fisurados y agrietados en las juntas.

Esta Iglesia no le faltaban partes en su estructura soportante, lo que hizo que trabajara de forma unitaria, como un bloque.

Este punto nos hace entender, que las estructuras de tierra, si funcionan, si están debidamente arriostradas. Sin partes faltantes en su estructura base, esto en planta, muchas de Iglesias que colapsaron, en la zona de VII región, es producto de distintas reparaciones o terremotos anteriores, esto nos hace suponer que si estás eran monumento nacional, antes del terremoto, ya estaban mal reparadas, y que los diagnósticos como proyectos de reparación no estaban ajustados a la realidad sísmica chilena.
Al parecer la falta de un concepto que se repite en casi todos los casos, es el ARRIOSTRE como concepto, y la distancia material que cada sistema constructivo permite .

Imaginería y decoraciones altares laterales Virgen María al suelo, mas no complicaciones en la estructura, esto demuestra una vez , la importancia de que el adobe resiste a momento torsor sísmico pero debe estar siempre la estructura completa. El edificio en general resultó estar en buenas condiciones, solo fisuramientos y agrietamientos que pueden ser  reparados, sin embargo la forma de reparación del frontón , debería concebir de concepto de reparación no sólo el entender el valor de la reposición de la decoración sino también el arriostre que este debería tener en el futuro.

At first sight, the superior part of the pediment fall over the street, and took the whole mass of decorations and architectonical detalles made on the pediment of concrete fall. Together to a series of reparations that the Church had historically.
The church suffered mainly in its facade, as result from a series of pastishe reparations, that layer after layer where adding weight to the pediment, the east side buttresses are with fissurements and cracks in the wall joints. This Church had all of its structural elements ( walls) , this point gave the whole structure stability, and make the whole works as a unitary system.

This point makes us understand, that the adobe brick masonry structures does work, if they are properly braced. Without any missing walls on its structure , in plan; a lot of the churches that had collapse, (in the zone of the 7th region),  part of the different reparations or other earthaquakes, I suppose that if they were National Monuments before the 2010 EA, the diagnosis and old reparations where not proper for these structures, and  they were not adjusted to the seismic chilean reality.

It seems like there is a lack of a concept, that it is repeatedly seen in most of cases, the BRACING, as a concept, and the material distance, that the cosntruction system alouds.

Imaginery and aside altars decorations of the Virgin Mary fell off to the ground, but there were no more complications with the main adobe brick structure, this shows i the importance of the structure as a whole, that can resist seismic momentum. In general, the building is in good conditions, just fissurements and cracks, that can be repaired, however the reparation of the fronton, must conceive the concept  of  the reposition of the decoration of the fronton within the bracing of the pediment in the main facade.
